Today we’ve been in the “Spreepark” which is an abandoned entertainment park in former east-berlin. The Park is closed and it is permitted to visit it, but they offer walking tours during august.
The park closed down in 2001. The owner, Norbert Witte, went to Peru, tried to run an entertainment park there as well, but failed. He started to deal with drugs, went into jail but meanwhile is lives back in the Spreepark again since the Berliner-Senat literally gave him the whole areal back.
There is also a documentation called “Achterbahn” about Witte’s Family.
It is pretty stunning to walk around the park, everything is quiet and the old attractions are overgrown. It is hard to believe that there were thousands of people - spending there weekends just 8 years ago.
