Keep your eyes and ears open

This is my third week after leaving Readmill, the third week that I float around and do not work, but get to know new things and people instead. Get to know new things that I eventually will do later.

I was totally stuck (actually I might still be) in a “front end / design / startup / tech / web-sharing-social / everything has to be fucking amazing all the time”-bubble and I have a hard time escaping from that.
Even though you know that there are tons of other people out there, doing all kinds of other things – getting closer to that isn’t really easy when you’re stuck.

Here is what I do right now to learn new things, I did not even plan it, it sort of just started to happen. And you know, since this is the interwebs, I just share it with you.

Do things that you usually don’t do / couldn’t do before (and do not care about $$$ while you do that).
For example, I (last-minute) jumped in and helped the re:publica team to set up the conference this year. I really did not do too much, just carrying a few things around, pushing chairs, hanging posters, these kind of things, but it was good fun & physical work. The great part though was to be involved in building a conference for 4000 people. My role was very, very, very tiny but it was a very welcome change after coding in front of a computer for months. Just something different.
Follow people on twitter that not even really interest you, just to get some other opinions, thoughts & links into your timeline. If just one of them posts something which, for whatever reason, causes your attention it might open a door to a whole new world for you.
Spend more time to read what the people who interest you are up to.
Meet new people. You have NOTHING to loose. If it’s a bad conversation just leave it, there will be interesting conversations.
You simply never now what that person over there might be up to, what you have in common, what you might do for each other or if you could even start a business together.
Attend meetups. Not only the ones that you already go to, but also new ones. Dive into a world that you’re usually not in. The above applies here as well: Learn new things and talk to the people, it simply could lead to new ideas/people and inspiration.

That was fun. Cycling on the Brooklyn Bridge, Williamsburg Bridge (both ways), Manhattan Bridge in one hour and three minutes.

Surprisingly the tourists on the Brooklyn Bridge are more dangerous than the Yellow Cabs in Manhattan.

We need more awesome & huge bridges in Berlin.
